Born May 8, , in Norway, Casper Oimoen came to Minot, North Dakota in He had learned to ski while a boy in Norway, and began to compete in ski jumping after coming to North Dakota. He could not compete in the Olympics because he was not an American citizen, but continued to compete regionally. He entered the Olympics in and again as captain of the U.S. team in , placing 5th and 13th respectively.
His winning record was unmatched. He won the Northwestern Ski Jumping Championship nine times in nine entries, the Montana State Jumping Championship six times in six entries, the Central United States Championship ten times, six of them in consecutive years (), and the United States National Ski Jumping Championship three times. In , he won the Eastern, Central and National Championships, plus eight other firsts, a feat which has never been equaled.

However, it turned out that immigration officials had misspelled his last name as Simeon. US Olympic officials attempted to correct the errot, but even the personal intervention of President Calvin Coolidge came too late to allow Oimoen to compete at the Winter Games.
Oimoen was inducted into the US Ski Hall of Fame in In he was given the Theodore Roosevelt Rough Rider Award by the Governor of North Dakota, and he was made a member of the Scandanavian-American Hall of Fame in Oimoen’s portrait is on display at the North Dakota State Capital, and a bronze statue of him stands in the Scandanavian Heritage Park in Minot. Casper Oimoen enjoyed a spectacular ski jumping career that spanned nineteen years. He was named to two American Olympic teams and won three U.S. ski jumping championships.
Casper Oimoen was born in Norway on May 8, and like most Norwegian youngsters was on skis from the time he could walk. Upon his arrival in the United States in he settled in Minot, North Dakota and proceeded to take the ski jumping sport by storm.
In the late twenties and throughout the thirties Oimoen entered over tournaments, winning the majority of them, including the National Ski Association National Jumping Tournaments in , and His record of ski tournament wins in , and remain among the best in American ski jumping history.
His finest hour came as a member of the United States Olympic Ski Jumping Team of when he placed fifth in the Special Jumping against the world’s best at Lake Placid, New York.
