The future leadership direction of Racing NSW will become clearer in the next six weeks with the finalisation of the search for a new chairman and director.
The deadline for applications for the board position is Friday, with the state government also seeking expressions of interest for the position as chair. This role could be filled by an existing director or the new member of the board.
A selection panel reporting to Racing Minister David Harris has been established to assess applicants, conduct interviews and make recommendations to the minister. The makeup of that panel is not expected to be announced until after the expressions of interest close.
Any selection will be subject to cabinet approval. The board position was created when former chair Russell Balding reached the end of his year term.

Garry Charny joins the Board of Racing NSW
Garry Charny is about 24 hours into his appointment to the Board of Racing NSW. Admittedly, it’s early days for his two-year tenure, but his mind is open and his expectations in check.
“I haven’t even been to a board meeting,” he said, chatting with TDN AusNZ on Wednesday afternoon. “My appointment literally commenced yesterday (Tuesday) so I’m still very much in those early learning stages.”
As much as Charny is new to Racing NSW, he’s a veteran of the board room generally.
His appointment this week comes off the back of a long career in the corporate environment, namely as the chairman of Centuria Capital, an ASX listed investment manager, and as the managing director and founder of Wolseley Corporate, an Australian corporate advisory and investment house.
These are heavy hitters in the financial industry. Centuria Capital has around $ billion in assets under management, and Charny was elevated to its chairmanship in In an earlier life he was co-founder and chairman of the international media advisory firm Boost Media, and he was a practising barrister until

During three days of public hearings, the Parliamentary Select Committee On The Proposal To Develop Rosehill heard from 34 individual witnesses, speaking on everything from animal welfare to state government planning policy and transport developments.
The terms of reference for the Upper House Committee were broad, outlining seven key areas plus a catch-all “any other related matters”.
The 10 Committee members — three Labor, two Liberal, one National, one Green, one Animal Justice Party, and two Independents — spent 21 hours, 40 minutes, and 20 seconds exploring all areas of a proposal that, while it was about a race club’s plans to possibly sell off its major asset for housing, encompassed so much more.
There were five main themes to emerge from the Committee’s questioning and the answers of witnesses over those three days. We have explored what was spoken about each in the summary below.
