Born Isabella Baumfree around in New York, she was born into slavery and faced numerous hardships before escaping to freedom in Truth's advocacy extended beyond abolition; she fought for women's rights, universal suffrage, and social justice, making her a pivotal figure in the reform movements of her time.
Her early life was marked by trauma, being sold multiple times before finding herself in the hands of John Dumont.
