The driving force behind Mahyco, its Founder-Chairman, Padma Bhushan Dr. e is a visionary and a philanthropist. Under The Barwale Foundation, Dr. Barwale has founded several institutions that address the socio-economic challenges of our society. The effort from The Barwale Foundation clearly indicates that education and health are not just the privilege of the rich. Schools, colleges and a hospital in a region that lacks basic metropolitan facilities are some of the tangible achievements of The Barwale Foundation.
The work of The Barwale Foundation is focused on food security, healthcare and human resource development. For attaining sustainable and enhanced crop productivity, the foundation conducts multidisciplinary research for the improvement of major crops. This includes strategic and applied research projects for crop improvement, production, protection and quality seed production through biotechnological techniques.

Meet farmer's son who bought Rs crore flat in Mumbai's Malabar Hills
The family of the owners of Maharashtra Hybrid Seeds Company (Mahyco) has bought a sea-view apartment in south Mumbai's Malabar Hill. The cost of the 9, sq ft house is around Rs crore. The director of the company, Rajendra Barwale, his wife and son bought the house on Walkeshwar Road.
They bought the house from Lodha's company Macrotech Developers. The house is 1,28, per square feet. It is on the second floor of a building called Lodha Malabar. B.R. Barwale was born into a small agricultural family in Hingoli / Jalna in , while India was still under British control. Shortly after his 17th birthday, the region became part of the independent Indian republic, whose government was faced with the problem of how to feed its people. At that time, most family farms operated on few acres of land, incomes were small, debts were high, and yields often failed to suffice even for the household that produced them.
