Even in the midst of such manifold activities, he found time to write several literary and spiritual books in prose as well as verse. Among them, &#;Anastasia&#;s Martyrdom&#; is the first narrative poem and &#;Nalagamangal&#; the first chronicle of history in Malayalam.&#;
Chavara Public school is one among the CMI Institutions which were sprout from the great vision of blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara. He was born on 10th February at Kainakary, Kerala. At the age of five he began his studies in a &#;Kalari&#;, a village school. When he was 13, he joined the seminary at Pallipuram for his priestly training. While he was in the seminary, his parents and his eldest brother died of an epidemic. On 29 November , he became a priest. Kuriakose Elias Chavara was the co-founder and first Prior General of the first congregation for men in the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, now known as the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate [CMI], and of a similar one for women, the Congregation of the Mother of Carmel [CMC]. Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara was born on 10 February to God fearing parents Iko (Kuriakose) Chavara and Mariam Thoppil at Kainakary, near Alappuzha, Kerala.
Inspired by the desire to become a priest, he began his studies under the parish priest of the church of St. Joseph. At the age of 13 in , he entered the seminary at Pallipuram. He was ordained priest on 29 November at Arthunkal and celebrated his First Holy Mass at Chennankari Church. After the ordination he was engaged for some time in pastoral ministry; however he soon returned to the seminary to teach and also to officiate for the Malpan Thomas Palackal during his absence. Thus he joined Malpan Thomas Porukara and Malpan Thomas Palackal when they were planning to establish a congregation.

This place was doubly blessed with the birth of St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara on February 10, as the sixth child of parents Kuriakose and Mariam, who were zealous Catholics. He joined at the Pallipuram seminary under the tutelage of Malpan Thomas Palackal in His loving father, mother, and only brother were passed away due to an epidemic, in Kainakary and surroundings just after the reception of his tonsure. As there was no heir in the family, relatives compelled him to discontinue the preparation for priesthood and to come back to the family. But he entrusted the family affairs to his niece in such way that he could continue his priestly studies. Saint Kuriakose was born on 10 February in the moderately rich family of Chavara at Kainakary of the Chennamkary parish, of very pious parents, Kuriakose Chavara and Mariam of the Thoppil family of Velianad, Pulincunnoo parish. The Chavaras are considered to be a scion of the well-known Pakalomattam family of Kuravilangad. Baptized on the 8th day, he was dedicated to Blessed Virgin Mary, a consecration which his mother renewed every year. He considered it a particular fortune to have had grown up with the loving care of his mother. He had his early schooling under a country teacher, who was a Hindu, in the company of other boys belonging to different faiths. Chavara, influenced as he was by the negative, apologetic theology of the missionaries, looked back to his school days rather pessimistically. He felt that the good upbringing he had at home was challenged by what happened at the school. He felt relieved with his call to priesthood, which came when he reached the age of ten.
