Poisoned pen biography of albert

Barbara Peters, owner of The Poisoned Pen, introduced author Allison Montclair as actually Alan Gordon. As Montclair, he&#;s written the three post-World War II novels featuring Sparks and Bainbridge. He talks about the changeover after the war, and said few people write about the women in England after the war. The two women start a marriage bureau to help rebuild British society as they rebuild their own lives. You can find all three books, including the latest, A Rogue&#;s Company, in the Web Store.

Here&#;s the summary of A Rogue&#;sCompany.

*A PW Pick of the Week!*

In Allison Monclair&#;s A Rogue&#;s Company, business becomes personal for the Right Sort Marriage Bureau when a new client, a brutal murder, two kidnappings, and the recently returned from Africa Lord Bainbridge threatens everything that one of the principals holds dear.

About The Poisoned Pen

The Poisoned Pen is my local independent bookshop.  They carry all of my books, in all formats currently in print (hardcover, trade paperback, mass-market paperback, audiobook, U.S. and U.K. editions, plus some miscellaneous foreign-language editions), all the time. And the Pen ships anywhere in the world. <g>

I normally go by the store a couple of times a month, both to buy books for reading (it’s a great store; mysteries are their specialty, but they carry a number of other things, and have a specialty in signed first editions, too), and to sign my books that people have ordered.

“Modern readers will find the texts greatly enhanced for their convenience by prefacing notes and a short essay on the books' importance. Helpful footnotes keep readers immersed in the narrative but do not overwhelm the text. A brief note about the author caps things off and leads into the back matter, where discussion questions and further suggested reading of the era are offered. Perfectly poised to be useful for group as well as individual reading, this series is a fun new way to encounter the spine-tinglers of yesteryear.” —Booklist

Albert's poison pen letters: Cruel notes to Queen Victoria that shatter myth of couple's majestic love story are revealed in a new biography after lying hidden in the Royal Archive

At the height of World War II, the librarian in charge of the Royal Archive found an innocent-looking box labelled ‘Diary &c. Prince Consort’s notes on the birth of the Royal Children’. He duly packed it off in to Princess Beatrice, then aged 86, so she could decide what to do with it.

The last surviving child of Prince Albert and Queen Victoria, she had spent years since their deaths poring through all their journals and letters — and censoring any passages that threatened their image as a couple of utter moral rectitude and harmony.

Thank heaven, Beatrice must have thought, the librarian had sent her this final box.

'I try my best to be patient,' he told her testily, 'but I feel the dreadful waste of most precious time, and of energies': Writes Prince Albert in newly discovered letters at the Royal Archive. The relationship between them has gripped the public's imagination and seen ITV produce a tv series Victoria (pictured Jenna Coleman as Victoria and Tom Hughes as Prince Albert)
