Thubten Chodron
Thubten Chodron is an AmericanTibetan Buddhistnun and a central figure in reinstating the Bhikkhuni (tib. Gelongma) ordination of women. She is a student of H. H. XIVth Dalai Lama, Tsenzhap Serkong Rinpoche, Thubten Zopa Rinpoche and other Tibetan masters.
Biography
Born in , she grew up in a "non-religious" Jewishfamily near Los Angeles, California, United States and earned her B.A. in History, University of California at Los Angeles in While doing graduate work in Education, she taught elementary school.
She took a course with Ven. Lama Yeshe and Ven. Lama Zopa Rinpoche in , inspiring her to study and practiceTibetan tradition at their monastery in Nepal.
In , she received Sramanerika (novice) ordination, and in , she travelled to Taiwan to receive the full Bhikshuniordination.
She has studied and practiced Buddhism of the Tibetan tradition extensively, in India and Nepal, and for three years at Dorje Pamo Monastery in France.

Venerable Thubten Chodron (德林 — De Lin) nació en Chicago en y creció cerca de Los Ángeles. Venerable Thubten Chodron
Venerable Thubten Chodron (德林 — De Lin) was born in Chicago in and grew up near Los Angeles. She graduated with a BA in history from the University of California at Los Angeles in After traveling through Europe, North Africa, and Asia for one and a half years, she received a teaching credential and went to the University of Southern California to do postgraduate work in education while working as a teacher in the Los Angeles school system.
In , she attended a meditation course given by Lama Thubten Yeshe and Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche, and subsequently went to Kopan, their monastery in Nepal, to continue studying and practicing Buddha’s teachings. In , she received sramaneri (novice) ordination from Kyabje Yongzin Ling Rinpoche, and in she received bhikshuni (full) ordination in Taiwan.
She studied and practiced Buddhism in the Tibetan tradition for many years in India and Nepal under the guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Tsenzhap Serkong Rinpoche, Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche and other Tibetan masters.
