Eugenio Zampighi Biography

Eugenio Zampighi was born in Modena, Italy on 17th October Zampighi showed a keen interest in painting when he was very young and at the age of thirteen he attended the Academy of Design. Zampighi completed the course winning six first class medals in the examinations.

At the age of twenty, Zampighi won a scholarship and spent three years in Rome. Zampighi was very successful in the yearly examinations and he was invited to become an Honourable Member of the Modena Academy. Zampighi spent the last year of his scholarship in Florence and he decided to settle there in It was here that Zampighi began to paint his well known genre paintings. These paintings were readily sold and Zampighi received many commissions from local dealers and from abroad.

Taking inspiration from a poem buy Leopardi, Zampighi executed a large painting that was exhibited in the hall of the Modena Academy. It was a great success and the Council of the Academy conferred upon him the degree of Professor.

At the age of thirteen, he decided to pursue his passion for art and attended the Academy of Design in Florence, Italy. During his time at the Academy, he received six first class medals in the examinations meant to test his talents. Shortly after leaving the Academy, he received a scholarship to continue his studies in Rome, Italy where he was also successful. So successful that he was invited to become an Honorable Member of the Modena Academy. He then chose to settle in Florence in , when he focused on genre-painting. In , after developing great works for more than 70 years, he passed away at the age of 85 in Maranello, Italy.

Zampighi then devoted himself to figure painting, representing scenes of the domestic life of his countrymen using pleasing composition and lively colours. These paintings made him famous and they are sought after by collectors in Italy and abroad
