‘ಮೈಸೂರು ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆ’ ಅಂದರೆ ಕೆ. ಎಸ್. ನರಸಿಂಹಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು. ಮೈಸೂರು ಮತ್ತು ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆಯನ್ನೂ ಮೀರಿ ನೆನಪಿಗೆ ಬರುವಷ್ಟು ಅವರು ಕನ್ನಡ ಜನಮಾನಸದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿರಾಜಿತರು. ಕನ್ನಡದ ಕವಿಯೊಬ್ಬರು ಯಾವುದೇ ಪಾಂಡಿತ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲದವನನ್ನೂ ತಮ್ಮ ಕೃತಿಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಆತ್ಮೀಯವಾಗಿ ಸೆಳೆದ ಒಂದು ಅಪೂರ್ವತೆ ಇದ್ದರೆ ಅದು ಕೆ. ಎಸ್. ನರಸಿಂಹ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಸೇರುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದು ನಿರ್ವಿವಾದ. ರಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆ. ಎಸ್. ನರಸಿಂಹ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳ ಮೊದಲ ಕವಿತಾ ಸಂಗ್ರಹ ‘ಮೈಸೂರು ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆ’ ಪ್ರಕಟವಾಯಿತು. ಈಗಲೂ ಅದು ಮರುಮುದ್ರಣಗಳನ್ನು ಕಾಣುತ್ತಲೇ ಇದೆ. ಮುಂದೆಯೂ ಕಾಣುತ್ತಲೇ ಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಷ್ಟೊಂದು ಜನಪ್ರಿಯತೆಯನ್ನು ಮೀರಿಸುವ ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಕಾವ್ಯ ಕೃತಿ ಪ್ರಾಯಶಃ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಲ್ಲ.
ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಲಕಾಲಕ್ಕೆ ಆದ ಕಾವ್ಯಕ್ರಾಂತಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಫೀನಿಕ್ಸ್ ನಂತೆ ತಮ್ಮನ್ನು ನವೀಕರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೊಸಹುಟ್ಟು ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತಾ ಘನವಾದ ಕಾವ್ಯ ರಚಿಸುತ್ತಾ ಹೋದದ್ದು ಕೆ.ಎಸ್. ನರಸಿಂಹಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳ ಹೆಗ್ಗಳಿಕೆ. ಮಧುರವಾದ, ಆದರೆ ಅನನ್ಯವಾದ, ತಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರೇಮ-ದಾಂಪತ್ಯದ ಕಾವ್ಯದ ನೆಲೆಯಿಂದ, ಬದುಕಿನ ನಿಷ್ಠುರ ವಿನ್ಯಾಸಗಳನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸುವ ‘ತೆರೆದ ಬಾಗಿಲು’ ನಂತಹ ಕವನಗಳವರೆಗೆ ಕೆ.ಎಸ್.ನ ಅವರು ನಡೆದ ಕಾವ್ಯದ ಒಡೆದು ತೋರುವ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆ ಬೆರಗು ಹುಟ್ಟಿಸುವಂಥದ್ದು.
ಕೆ. ಎಸ್. ನರಸಿಂಹಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ಮಂಡ್ಯ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಕಿಕ್ಕೇರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ರಂದು ಜನಿಸಿದರು. ಇಂದು ಅವರ ನೂರನೆಯ ಹುಟ್ಟುಹಬ್ಬ. ತಂದೆ ಕಿಕ್ಕೇರಿ ಸುಬ್ಬರಾಯರು. ತಾಯಿ ಹೊಸ ಹೊಳಲು ನಾಗಮ್ಮನವರು. ಮೈಸೂರು, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ ವಿದ್ಯಾಭ್ಯಾಸ ನಡೆದು, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಸೆಂಟ್ರಲ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಜೂನಿಯರ ಬಿ.ಎ ಮುಗಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ ಓದು ಅಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ಮುಕ್
