About St. Pedro Calungsod
St. Pedro Calungsod was born in in the Philippines, though the exact area of the Philippines is uncertain. Nothing is known for certain about his family.
Pedro was very devoted to God from the time he was young. He had a particular devotion to the Eucharist and to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
As a boy, he received an education at a boarding school that was run by Spanish Jesuits. He studied theology diligently, and he learned Spanish. Because he wanted to be a missionary, he also learned other skills that would be useful to him as a missionary. These skills included carpentry, drawing, painting, and singing.
When Pedro was thirteen or fourteen years old, he began his life as a missionary. He joined some Spanish missionaries who were preparing to travel to the Marianas Islands for
